One cycle, Three themes

Theme 1: Greater Circularity

The approach to the theme Greater Circularity focuses on highlighting the importance of re-evaluating the lifecycle of products and materials, encouraging solutions that promote recycling, reducing excessive consumption, and reusing materials. The targeted projects involve water reuse, reducing food waste, and encouraging local consumption, aligning with the goal of reducing Porto’s ecological footprint.

Through practical examples – ranging from the use of technologies to repurpose materials in construction to the transformation of urban waste into new resources – it is possible to demonstrate how circularity can be effectively applied in an urban context.

Theme 2: More Clean Energy

Focusing on the urgent transition to renewable energy sources and improving energy efficiency, the theme of Clean Energy is essential.

Within this context, topics such as the use of photovoltaic panels and how they contribute to the production of decentralized renewable energy, as well as the creation of renewable energy communities will be explored

Through curated content and a conference aligned with this theme, the objective is to showcase how the energy infrastructure of the city of Porto is actively reducing dependence on fossil fuels and fostering sustainable practices that support carbon neutrality. This effort represents a collaborative initiative involving the Municipality, academia, and society in general.

Theme 3: Better Mobility

The choice of the theme “Better Mobility” arises from the need to transform urban transport systems, as well as to demonstrate the valuable contribution that science and technology can provide. Among the solutions that will be analysed to be analyzed, there will be an opportunity to discover which ones offer the greatest potential for expansion and increased accessibility of the public transport network. we will explore those with the greatest potential to expand and enhance the accessibility of public transport networks By promoting decarbonized mobility, advancing the electrification of transport, and fostering innovative solutions such as the use of hydrogen, we will examine how research contributes to the mission of reducing carbon emissions and improving the quality of life for citizens.

This topic is framed within BE.Neutral, a project funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (Mobility Agenda for Carbon Neutrality in Cities).
